Here is an answer to your Confusion regarding MBA & PGDM

In today’s world, mere graduation degree cannot get you anywhere. With everything from technology to commerce evolving at a rapid pace, specialization of skills has become a must. Graduates are now looking for courses that will help them gain all the expertise needed so as to achieve all their career related goals. Management courses are very popular amongst students as they open doors to umpteen opportunities with several options. These courses allow them to build their career in any type of industry they want.

Master of Business Administration, which is more popularly known by its abbreviation MBA, is one of the two courses most commonly opted by the students. Post Graduate Diploma in Management that is PGDM, being the other one. Entrances exams that give you access to these courses are CAT, GMAT, XAT, MAT, etc. As the entrance exam approaches, various institutions begin to publicize their MBA and PGDM courses highly in order to lure the students to choose them. This eventually leaves the students confused between the two. Many of them don’t even know the difference. Technically, the difference between them is that MBA is offered by those colleges, which hold a university affiliation while PGDM is offered by institutions holding autonomy and approval of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Indian Institute of Management (IIM) is one esteemed institute that offers PGDM but not MBA because it is not affiliated with the university.

Syllabus for both these courses is almost the same but their curriculum and teaching methodology is very different. PGDM comprises meticulous classroom schedule, case studies, practical projects that give the students a taste of the real world, internship, and interacting with some top players of the business. MBA, on the other hand will serve you better only if you have some work experience after graduation and before MBA. It also includes classroom learning, projects and presentations. Both these courses offer full-time, part-time, and distance learning options. If you do not wish to leave your job but wish to get the degree/diploma then taking up a part-time course or distance learning will be perfect for you. There are several areas of specialization offered by both the courses. Depending on your interest you can select which one will be suitable to make a career. Some of the very popular ones are Marketing, Finance, and Human Resources. Some people also opt for doing both the courses simultaneously; of course, one of them then has to be via distant learning.

After completing these management courses your standard in the job market will rise and you will have an upper hand over others. It is also important how well you fare in the course. Another factor which is taken into consideration is the institution you had applied for. The well reputed ones can bring you some of the best job opportunities. You don’t just get a degree or diploma in hand, it’s not simply few letters that you put after your name but it is the knowledge you gain, your special skill set.
