Does MBA depend on the stream of the candidate?
Getting off into a journey called “life” and not knowing what to do after college is a common phase which most of us go through. But blindly following what most of the ‘successful’ people have done is simply foolishness. One should analyse what he/she is good at. You got to scrutinise your abilities and capabilities, evaluate your strength and weakness and then decide your career path; not just by taking up MBA/MS/M.tech which would fetch another degree for your resume. Higher education after your graduation is pursued just to improve your professionalism and to gain more knowledge in the field of expertise.
MBA is a management course that boosts up the managerial, communication and presentation skills of a person. MBA is preferable to customer and service oriented industries. If a candidate is good at management prospects and wants to take up management as his/her career then MBA is a right option irrespective of the stream. Graduation is a must to pursue any higher degree. It can be either B.tech,B.com/B.sc,BBA etc. but what is important in deciding what to take up for the master’s degree is the skill set, interest, capabilities and abilities. Taking up MBA just because you did not has any other option would land you nowhere.
Well, most of us think doing an MBA would just add more value to our resume and henceforth makes a difference in the pay package but the reality is just not that. Let’s take an example if you own a business, you will try to grow it, if you are growing you won’t mind to invest money (reason for high MBA pay scales) for your business to grow, in such competitive environment you need some creative ideas. So a business hires only who can think new and help it to place a long foot in the market place.
Does an MBA college teach creativity? Are we trained for creating? How far real time MBA studies can help in making creative and wise decisions?
If you are trained for something, that’s not your creativity. You are trained to follow which already exists. Unfortunately business cannot follow existing trends because at the end of the day “we” the customers always look for something NEW. So MBA has lot of volume in its box, but the same old strategically trained brains are unable to break this box. Then why to join an MBA college? The answer is very simple; although you have the skills and talent they remain as raw materials till you get trained in a proper manner. MBA is a course structure which helps you gaining the business running capabilities and henceforth college and the faculty are just a guidance and sort of a push to get you into the right direction.
Nowadays students study something but end up doing jobs irrelevant to their course. This is not something to be pointed out but it shows that the student did not pick up the right choice of career path. Graduation can be anything depending upon your choice of preferences. Of course there is no connection between B.Tech/B.E or any other degree and MBA but it is ultimately your outlook towards management concepts and purely your interest in taking up administration and business management as your career. B.Tech/B.E is something related to engineering but students often tend to feel that an engineering degree is just not sufficient and they need something more to highlight their skills and talents. Then, comes the MBA which adds up managerial skills to the personal forum along with the technical skills which they have already obtained in their graduation. Learning new concepts and acquiring knowledge in various domains is always a positive factor but learning without any meaning is simply a waste of time! “He who learns but does not think, is lost”
The only suggestion any career counsellor would like to give a student is that study whatever you want to, pursue any degree you want to, no subject or a degree depends on the stream of the candidate but ultimately all those degrees should make some sense in your life and career.
